Methodology & Sourcing
How the PHD Funding Tracker collects, verifies, and presents funding data on maternal and pediatric health technology companies.
Scope
The PHD Funding Tracker covers companies operating at the intersection of maternal health, pediatric care, and family health technology. We focus on venture-backed and growth-stage companies that have raised private or institutional capital, as well as publicly traded companies in these sectors.
Our coverage prioritizes companies with meaningful clinical activity in the United States, including virtual care platforms, digital health tools, benefit managers, diagnostics, devices, and care delivery organizations serving mothers, infants, children, and families.
Inclusion Criteria
- Companies primarily focused on maternal health (fertility through postpartum), pediatric health (birth through age 18), or cross-cutting family health
- Companies that have raised disclosed or credibly estimated external financing of $1M or more
- Companies with operational evidence of US market presence or significant US clinical activity
- Acquisitions and IPO events for companies meeting the above criteria
Exclusion Criteria
- Companies that are exclusively general-purpose digital health platforms with only incidental maternal or pediatric features
- Non-US companies with no material US clinical presence
- Bootstrapped or self-funded companies without credible external funding evidence
- Government grants and non-dilutive research funding (SBIR, NIH) unless combined with equity financing
Source Hierarchy & Verification Tiers
Every funding record in this tracker carries a verification tier indicating the quality of its underlying source. We apply a four-tier hierarchy:
Primary source verified — company press release, SEC filing, or multiple independent sources.
Credible secondary source — single authoritative news source or investor announcement.
Aggregated or approximate — total raised from multiple rounds; individual round details unknown.
PHD research estimate — based on available signals; not independently verified.
Undisclosed & Approximate Data
Many private companies do not disclose funding amounts. In these cases, we record the round with an "Undisclosed" amount and note the source of the announcement. We do not estimate or impute undisclosed amounts.
Some companies have raised multiple rounds over time. Total capital raised figures appear on company profile pages as context. The tracker itself shows only discrete, individually-sourced funding events — aggregate totals are not shown as separate tracker rows.
Dates & Quarters
Dates reflect the publicly announced or reported date of a funding event, not the close date. When only a quarter is known, we use the first day of that quarter as a placeholder. The "Quarter" field in the tracker always reflects the announced quarter.
Corrections Policy
We are committed to accuracy and will correct any factual errors promptly. If you identify an error, missing round, or outdated information, please contact us through the Pediatric Health Dispatch newsletter.
Corrections are applied retroactively to the relevant record and noted in the editorial note field where appropriate.
Update Cadence
The tracker is updated on an ongoing basis as significant funding events are announced. Bulk updates to existing records occur quarterly. The "Last Updated" timestamp on the tracker landing page reflects the most recent database revision.
Independence & Conflicts
The PHD Funding Tracker is editorially independent. No company, investor, or sponsor has paid for inclusion or favorable treatment in this database. Inclusion is based entirely on the criteria above. PHD does not hold equity positions in any tracked companies.
